When I saw the assignments for My Minds Eye I couldn’t wait until it was my turn to pick! I loved the patterns in the Penny Lane line. When I received the paper pack I was surprised at the texture and thickness of the paper, very nice, thick, and sturdy paper!! I teamed this awesome paper up with a few of my favorite Cricut carts to make a layout I love! The photo of my son feeding the ducks is a favorite of mine so I wanted to find an image to go with it and was very pleased to find ducks on the Campout cartridge!  I also made a couple of cards because they are always nice to have on hand when you need to send a little smile to someone!

    Feeding the Ducks Layout

    cx-layout-cards-2009-001

    Instructions:

I used the large square scallop paper from the pack as my base. I mounted a 5×7 photo and placed it at an angle.

For the title I cut ‘feeding” 1″ high using Storybook Font Cartridge set on shadow. For “the” 1″ high using Storybook Font Cartridge set on  Fancy/Corner and shift. For “Ducks”  1 3/4″ high using Storybook Font Cartridge set on  Fancy/Corner.

For the accent corner I cut two 3″ high using Storybook Font Cartridge one from green the other brown set on  Fancy/Corner J shift, then I cut the leaves off of the brown and glued it onto the green, placed in in the corner of my photo and sewed a button on top.

For the pond I cut two from blue paper using Graphically Speaking Cartridge H2O set on blackout one 1 3/4 ” the other 1 1/4″. I journaled on the smaller one.  For the trees I cut one out of  brown paper and one from green  (repeat with flip mode on) 6″ high  using Storybook Font Cartridge H shift, then cut the green leaves off and glue to the brown, place one on the layout by the photo and the other one cut a couple inches off the trunk of the tree and place at the other edge of the pond.

The ducks were cut using Camp Out Solutions Cartridge  two 1″ high the other 1 1/4″ high. I mounted two on foam tape and added beads for the eyes.

The cloud and sun were cut using Paper Pups Shape Cartridge set on blackout 1 1/2″ high, then I did a smaller sun and mounted it on foam tape.

    Be Happy Card

    img_2117Instructions:

Cut a piece of cardstock 6×12 and fold in half for the card base.

Cut be happy circle using Calligraphy Collection Font Cartridge 4 1/2″ high set to inspiration and shift. Glue to center of card.

Cut the beehive using Pooh & Friends Cartridge 2 1/4″ high set to icon. Assemble and put in the corner of the card with foam tape.

Cut three bees (two in flip mode) using Pooh & Friends Cartridge 1 1/4″ high from three different papers (white for the wings, yellow or orange for the body, and black or brown for the stripes) assemble and place on the card with foam tape. Add brads for the eyes.

Use pen to add dots for the flight path and the little bee antenna.

    Thinking of You Card

    cx-layout-cards-2009-008

    Instructions:

Cut a piece of cardstock 6×12 and fold in half for the card base.

Using the Cricut pens write “Thinking of You” 2″ high using Calligraphy Collection Cartridge. When you load the paper move your blade down a few inches so you will have room on the left hand side for the flower. Cut 5 1/2″ wide and 2 1/2′ high remember to keep the sentiment to the right when cutting. Glue to bottom of card base.

Cut a piece of red 5 1/2″ wide by 3 1/4″ high, slightly overlap the blue making sure the whole sentiment shows, then place ribbon over the place where they meet. Add brads to the four corners.

Cut Flower 6″ high using Calligraphy Collection Cartridge <image1>set to flip and inspiration from patterned paper. Then cut two set to flip and inspiration blackout one in green the other blue. Cut the blue flower off the top and glue over the green flower, then also cut off the one from the pattern paper and place over the blue. Glue the assembled flower to the card front.

Sew a button to the center of the flower.

    6.)11 1/2 x 11 1/2.

Layer and adhere to page.  Mat photos with pattern paper and adhere.  Embellish and adhere die cuts and transparency from Feeling Groovy paper pack.  Last, cut title from Hello Kitty Font.  Adhere to white cardstock.  Cut letters in irregular  fun shapes. Adhere to page.

    Cupcake Card

    img_2334

    Directions or Comments:

Birthdays are special occasions, so celebrate that special occasion in style with this quick and easy card.  First, cut white cardstock 10 x 7. Fold in half.  Mat with pattern paper.  Adhere cupcake die cut from Doodlebug Cricut Cart.  Add Doodlebug sugar to the cupcake frosting.  Adhere buttons to card.  Hey…..your done!!  Feeling Groovy pattern papers makes it soooo easy!

    Butterfly Card and Envelope

    img_2346

    Directions or Comments:

This little slide card is sure to catch someone’s attention!  It’s so simple to make you’ll want to make them for all your friends.  Use them for anything from birth announcements to giving that special teacher a gift card.

Cut sheet of paper approximately 6 inches by 7 ¼ inches.   Score and fold at 3 ½ inch mark.. Fold remaining ¼ inch on back side.  Adhere with glue.  Glue bottom of card.  Using Cuttlebug border frills, emboss flower down left side.  Next lightly sand to bring out the white paper underneath.  Cut and emboss two butterflies.  Adhere.  Tie ribbon around middle.

Make the card by cutting cardstock 5 ¾ by 3 ½ inches.  For a unique look, mat card with  pattern paper.  Adhere die cuts from the Penny Lane Feeling Groovy Collection.

Finish you card by adding your favorite photos or sentiments.

    Gone Fishing Layout

    april09_gonefishing_mdouthit

    Instructions:

I loved using the Maggie May collection for this fishing page because the girlie theme also had the blues and greens which went well with my subject. The My Mind’s Eye Maggie May kit has die cut flowers that I incorporated along with the Cricut elements. I used the Hello Kitty Cricut Font cartridge for my title and the Graphically Speaking Cartridge for the fish image.

    1. Use green paper for background. Trim edge of scalloped paper and use as a border strip on left side of page. Trim floral paper approx. 2” and adhere next to border strip. Cut blue print paper 5” and adhere next to floral paper.
    2. Using the Storybook Cricut Cart, cut a 5.5” scallop from purple paper and the border from white cardstock. Cut shape in half and adhere next to patterned paper.
    3. Machine stitch patterned paper along edges.
    4. Tear a strip of the graphic lined paper and adhere horizonally near bottom of page.
    5. Cut title letters (Hello Kitty Font) and fish shape (Graphically Speaking) and adhere to page.
    6. Stitch a strip of ribbon near bottom left of page. Adhere die cut flower to ribbon as shown. Randomly place due cut flowers on page.

    ‘Love’ Card

    apr09_lovecard_meld

I made this card using the Maggie May Penny Lane collection, and my Cricut and Cuttlebug. This can be used for wedding as well as every day “I love you” cards.

    Instructions:

    1. Make 4.5 x 6 card from white cardstock. Trim teal cardstock to fit card front. Trim a smaller piece of graphic print paper. Adhere both to center of card. Cut a strip of purple dots paper and adhere to center of card. Machine stitch around edges.
    2. Cut scalloped shape from Storybook Cricut Cart. Emboss with Cuttlebug Snow Dots folder. Adhere to center of card.
    3. Cut bird from Indie Art Cricut Solutions cart using purple MME paper and white cardstock. Adhere to card.
    4. Cut greeting from Love Language Cuttlebug Combo and adhere to center of card. Add gems.

    ‘Hugs and Kisses’ Card

    apr09_hugsnkisses_meld

This card is easy to make and incorporates elements made using the Cricut and Cuttlebug. The Maggie May papers are double-sided and include some solids as well as some subtle prints. I added a bit of distressing ink to this card and made it more of a vintage look.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. (All edges inked unless otherwide stated). Create 4.25 x 5.5” card from aqua cardstock. Trim dark purple patterned paper and circles paper to fit card front as shown. Adhere
    2. Trim a 4.5 x 3.25 piece of cream Maggie May paper and adhere to center of card. Machine stitch around edges.
    3. Cut two different sizes butterfly shapes from purple and green paper using Indie Art cartridge. Cut two flower shapes using Accent Essentials. Adhere shapes to card, using Maggie May flower petal die shapes with flower.
    4. Cut greeting using Love Language Cuttlebug Combo. Adhere to card.
    5. Adhere buttons to center of butterfly and flower.

    BoBunny Chipboard Album ‘Baby’

I can’t get enough baby photos. Those feet and those little lips just drive me crazy. I always have duplicates and triplicates of my favorites too. This was THE perfect little book for my obsession! It’s a great size and super cute. Well worth the time to cover the letters as the final product will be the spotlight of any room.  BoBunny has so many designs to choose from that I’ve decided to do a couple for Father’s Day, one for my sister’s upcoming birthday and then of course, one for me!

    april09-3

    1. To cover the pages:

Place adhesive on the side of the letter you wish to cover. Place this side to the back side of the paper you wish to use. With your craft cutting knife, trim around all edges. Re-punch the holes along the straight edge with your Crop-A-Dile. Repeat for the other side of the letter.

I alternated green, blue and cream papers from the Basic Grey Boxer Collection. Choose whatever colors appeal to you.

When all letters are covered, you can create the album with 3 metal rings or ribbon.

If using rings, you can tie some of the American Crafts ribbon to each ring.

    april09-1

    april09-2

    2. Make your Cricut Cuts:

    Learning Curve Cartridge

From blue paper, cut the word “boy” at 1 ¾ ”

From cream paper, cut the word “QUINTON” (all caps) at 1 ¾”

    Indie Art Cartridge

From green paper, cut the butterfly at 1 ½”

    New Arrival Cartridge

From Green paper, cut the giraffe at 3 ½”

From green paper, cut the train at 2”

From green paper, cut the stork at 3”. You will be using the negative to the stork, so cut out a rectangle with it inside and set aside.

From blue paper, cut the pre-set word “love” at 2”

From blue paper, cut the pre-set word “sweet pea” at 2”

From blue paper, cut the diaper pins at 2”

From cream paper, cut the pre-set word “baby” that is in the block letters at 1 ¾”. You will be using the inside letters, so pop them out and set them aside.

    3. Starting with the first letter, adhere the word “boy” at the left side, vertically. On the back side, adhere the giraffe.

    4. Next, adhere a photo on the letter “A”. Trim if necessary. Place the green butterfly at top as shown. Place a ribbon bow in center of the butterfly. On the back side of the A, adhere the green train and another small photo.

    5. On the B, adhere a 4×6 photo, vertically. Adhere the green stork and blue “love” with heart at the left as shown.

On the back side, place a 4×6 photo, horizontally, and journaling, if desired.

    6. On the Y, adhere the blue “sweet pea” word.

From the boxer paper pack, place the cream embellishment sticker and then with the boxer letter stickers, place “my” and “Quinton”. Of course, you would change the baby’s name to yours.

Place 2 of the blue diaper pins to the upper right, with a  ribbon at the top, as shown.

On the back side, adhere a 4×6 horizontal photo, with the cream baby block letters.  Place the sticker strip from the boxer sticker sheet at the bottom, horizontally.

    7. On the back cover, place 2 vertical 4×6 photos and a 6×2 ½” strip of cream paper. Place the negative rectangle of the green giraffe at the right, as shown. On the back, place the inside of the baby blocks “baby” and then adhere the baby’s name, “QUINTON”.

Place a sticker strip from the boxer sticker sheet at the bottom, horizontally and then the green leaf from the same sticker sheet, as shown.

    Calling all Designers!

    Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

It is time again for the annual CX Design Team call. This is your opportunity to strut your stuff and hopefully land a place on our Design Team. This open call is the first step in our selection process.  Here is what we’re looking for in designers and how to submit your entries. Happy scrapping!

    What We Are Looking For

We are looking for strong designers with a commitment and passion for designing; for designers who have the ability to create strong, solid projects with elements of creativity and originality. We are also looking for designers who are versatile - who can successfully design anything from a set of cards to an altered home decor item and everything in between. And, of course, we are looking for designers who want to have fun and work hard!

Unfortunately, due to the loss of the CX community, there will be significant changes to the purpose and direction of the Design Team for the 2009-2010 season. More specific details on those changes will be sent during the second step of the process. These changes, however, will have some great benefits for the designers, including more recognition and better exposure than in past years.

This coming year CX will only be contracting 12 designers  - so space will be limited. We will announce the 12 designers on the blog in August - we will also follow up with a personal email to designers selected - just to be sure they are notified.

    How to Enter

If you are interested in trying out for the CreativeXpress Design Team, please send CX photographs of 3 projects that you feel demonstrate your creative ability, your design strength and your ability to execute a great project. Ask yourself ‘Does my project make my fingers itch to scraplift it?’ At this stage, your entry projects do NOT have to be newly created projects or projects created specifically for applying - you may use any projects you have designed. Also, in your entry email, include a paragraph or two about why you feel you would make a good addition to the team. What do you bring to the table that will help CX grow - in the blog and in the store?  Send your entries to kriss@creativexpress.com. Please put ‘DT Entry’ as the subject line of your email. Entries must be received by July 31, 2009, no later than 9:00 am MST.

Note: Everyone who would like to be on the team next year must submit an entry, including those who are members of the current CX Design Team.
