Krista Austin
Chicago, Illinois
Krista started scrapbooking five years ago when her son was one. She started a typical baby book for him, but then it quickly grew into a wonderful hobby. "I find it a very relaxing and rewarding way to spend evenings. I love seeing my children look proudly through their books."
Krista can also be proud of the great scrapbooking accomplishments she has achieved. This savvy scrapper has been published in Creating Keepsakes magazine and she has also won layout contests in several Scrapbook Expo and Memories Expo events.
"If there is a page I am really stuck on, I pack away the photos and move on to other photos from a different event - preferably in a totally different color scheme." Because Krista keeps an open mind when she is creating, her style is always varied. She likes to let her photos and her current mood be the guide to her creativity. Like the variation in her scrapbooking styles, her completion times also vary. Her clean and simple pages take about an hour, whereas, her more complex pages can take up to eight hours, especially if she is making her own embellishments.
Variety is the name of her game. She enjoys using an assortment of scrapbooking techniques. Lately, she enjoys using paint, paper and embossing powder to decorate chipboard embellishments. Blue, black, red and any patterned paper (particularly stripes) are Krista's favorite mediums to work with.
Krista doesn't try to imitate any particular style or layout. She does love to look at other pages to pick and choose ideas or colors for her own layouts. Some of the artists that inspire this scrapper are: Erin Lincoln, Lisa Brown Caveney, Becky Higgins, Nely Fok, Julie Scattaregia, Nia Reddy and Christy Tomlinson. She also is impressed by the quality of layouts in the Creative Xpress Gallery.
With a Masters degree in Business Administration and another Masters degree in Hospital administration, this former Hospital Administrator decided she would trade her commute in for a stay at home job. Now a stay at home mom, she gets to spend more time with her husband Brett and her two children Patrick and Caroline. When Krista isn't scrapping, she enjoys participating in School and Neighborhood volunteer work, photography, scuba diving and playing baseball with her son. Her family also enjoys traveling to exotic places like Peru, Papua New Guinea, Morocco, Senegal and Vietnam. Her most exciting trip was to Siberia, Russia to adopt her daughter, Caroline. |

Patches Razo
McAlester, Oklahoma
"With a given name like mine, I have a lot of nicknames! I have learned to answer to just about anything, Pebbles and Peaches are the most common." Patches takes an easygoing approach to her name just as she does to scrapbooking. She lets her pictures direct her as to how the rest of the page is going to be laid out. When she completes a page, which usually takes about an hour or so, there are "no plain spots" because she favors lots of pictures and embellishments. With all that adhering, it's a good thing she stocks up on her 3 favorite products: Glue Dots, Hermafix and Un-Du Adhesive Remover..."I don't know how I ever scrapped without it!"
Patches has been married 14 years to her wonderful husband, Jeff. "I also claim my two children, Nikoloas (Nik, because he's almost a teenager, 12 years) and Breanna (Bre, because it's easier to scream out, 5 years)." Besides playing the role of secretary to her kids and husband, Patches works as an agent at a local Allstate Insurance office. She has a very understanding boss that lets her spend lots of time with her kids and be involved with their school activities. Which is nice because her kids are in swimming, football, dance, pom squad and basketball...lots of photo-taking opportunities.
When her son was four, Patches went to her first Creative Memories party. The enthusiasm started there and she's never looked back. "I turned into a collector of anything I thought I could include in his scrapbook!" Since discovering scrapbooking, Patches has definitely found her style. Her favorite technique is double or triple matting the main photos on her page because it adds so much color and dimension. Deep brick red, orange and pink are among her most used scrapbook colors.
Patches draws inspiration from the scrapbook product itself. AI love the simplicity of SEI, Studio K is really playful and I love the new coordinates from BasicGrey. On the rare occasion, when she gets scrapper's block, she turns to her husband. "My husband is a creative force so I usually ask for his help!"

Joni Parker
Phoenix, Arizona
"In 2001- A friend asked me to help her with a Christmas Gift for her Mother, since I was "creative". After helping her using the products she had purchased, I decided there had to be more to it and sought out local scrapbook stores."
To combat scrapper's block, Joni will go through magazines and idea books and pencil sketch the designs she likes into a composition book. When she gets "stuck" at the beginning of creating a layout, she can then go back through the sketches without being influenced by a theme. This helps her to get a jump start so she can create all kinds of twists and turns to make the page her own. When she is working on an unfinished layout and needs help, she'll call over her husband for help. John is also a scrapbooker and he always has a handy idea or two to get her back on track. Joni has been married to her scrapbooker's dream of a husband for 13 years and they have a 21 month old son, Joseph.
As an owner of a Massage Therapy Business and a part-time employee of a local Scrapbook store, Joni has become a proficient multi-tasker. She scrapbooks while standing up so she can do other things at the same time. Laundry, scrapbooking, the dishes, scrapbooking, chasing Joseph . . . scrapbooking. Amazingly enough, with this method it only takes her a total of 2-3 hours to complete a page.
Joni has a simple scrapbooking style and loves to use mats in unusual ways to enhance or detract from her photos. She loves to scrap in blues, browns, reds and oranges and can't live without her Cutterpede, Diamond Glaze and Patterned paper.
Joni won a couple of contests at her local scrapbook store, which was enough to whet her appetite for submitting layouts. She had a layout displayed in the Just Rite Stamper booth at 2005 Winter CHA. She also had an altered frame displayed at a booth at a local Rubber Stamp and Scrapbook Expo. She has just started submitting so she hopes this contest is just the beginning for her.
When Joni isn't scrapbooking, she enjoys playing Trivia, hanging out with her husband and son and playing on the computer. She also enjoys anything to do with Hockey and has appropriately earned the nickname of Hockey chick.

Christy Palmer
Puyallup, Washington
"I started scrapbooking 5 years ago. I have always loved crafts & when I heard about scrapbooking I knew it would be a perfect fit. I was glad to have a creative outlet as well as a chance to preserve my families memories."
Christy loves to use muted colors, but her favorite combination is light blue and brown. She likes to keep her style simple and throw in a couple of embellishments for good measure. To add a finishing touch to any project, she will often utilize her favorite scrapbooking technique - sewing.
When Christy is faced with scrapper's block, she likes to look at online galleries to get her creative juices flowing. Starting with something small like a card is another great way she captures her creativity. By the time she's done with the small project, she feels ready to tackle her next layout. With such a clever approach, her pages only take about 1-2 hours to complete.
She has been married almost 14 years to her best friend, Steve. Their 5 children Jordan (12), Austin (10), Levi (8), Allie (5) and Dallin (9 months) are the perfect inspiration for her scrapbooking projects. Christy is also inspired by many others. " I love looking through magazines and online galleries for inspiration."
With such an impressive scrapbooking resume, Christy is obviously inspired. She has been a member of several Design Teams and is currently serving as a Design Team member for an online store. She has also done design work for Pebbles, Inc., with several of her projects being published in their last idea book. Christy has even won the Creative Xpress monthly contests several times.
When this stay at home mom isn't busy scrapbooking, she enjoys spending time with her family, looking for a good shopping bargain, watching her boys' soccer games and enjoying the great outdoors. You can also see her at the beach or the local park admiring the scenery.

Lisa Falduto
Plover, Wisconsin
"When I have scrappers block I open the idea books, magazines and search online for inspiration. So I will spend an hour or so evaluating other layouts and deciding what I like or don't like. Then I come back to the photos I wanted to scrapbook and decide how I will use a particular technique or style to speak along with the photos. I think the longest I have ever had scrappers block was for about 6 hours."
With a list of scrap-worthy accomplishments, Lisa obviously knows what she is doing. She won the Creating Keepsakes University Contest for Journaling and she has also been a design team member for both Kit n' Kaboodle monthly kit club and Allie's Albums.
Since every artist needs a creative influence, Lisa likes to draw her inspiration from her favorite scrapbook artists: Heidi Swapp, Sarah Ackerman-Hale and Rhonna Farrer. Lisa also uses her favorite scrapbooking technique to fuel her creative genius. "I would have to say as simple as it sounds that I just love paper tearing. There is something very therapeutic about ripping paper as well as the way it enhances a layout. There is always something new you can do by tearing paper, a new look you can achieve."
Lisa loves working with all colors and color combinations, but she does love fall colors and the combination of red and black. She has tried many new things over the years which subtly modify her style, but you can always see her use of clean and straight lines regardless of what she adds. Her Xyron, her Sizzix and her Fiskars Rotary Paper Trimmer will always be among her three favorite products.
Her love of scrapbooking started with stamping. She began rubber stamping about 10 years ago and then made the natural progression to scrapbooking. She just dabbled at first, but then her obsession become full blown.
When this Early Childhood Education Director turned stay at home mom isn't fostering her obsession or spending time with her husband, Tony, and two children Tiffany & Meliah, she loves to garden and shop.
